Project ECHO (Extension of Community Healthcare Outcomes) is an innovative online “telementoring” program that links medical experts with other providers across Alabama. The goal is to foster interactive collaboration in case-based learning to develop advanced skills and best practices, which improves patient care access, quality, and efficiency.
How It Works
Project ECHO uses videoconferencing technology to connect providers with content experts. Each “ECHO clinic” normally includes a brief, high-yield educational session, but most of the learning takes place during in-depth discussions of real-world cases submitted by ECHO participants. All participants contribute to the “all teach, all learn” discussion model, and clinical recommendations are shared. The videoconferencing software is provided at no cost, so all that’s needed is Internet access and a smartphone or computer with a webcam and microphone.
