PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency

The PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency at UAB Hospital is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacist (ASHP). It is a one-year program designed to prepare graduates to be pharmacy specialists in the care of patients with infectious diseases. Its focus is the development of the knowledge and skills necessary to be integral members of an antimicrobial stewardship program and to contribute to public health efforts to reduce the spread of antimicrobial resistance and
vaccine-preventable diseases. In addition to qualifying the resident for clinical pharmacy specialist positions in infectious diseases or faculty areas, graduates will be prepared to sit for the Board Certification Exam in Infectious Diseases Pharmacy upon successful completion of the program.

The PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency Program at UAB Hospital includes a combination of required and elective learning opportunities (rotations) throughout the year that give the resident a wide variety of experiences in infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship.

Orientation provides a general overview of the departmental organization, support units, and resident responsibilities. Benefits include health and accident insurance, holiday time off, and support to attend residency related professional conference(s).

Why did you choose UAB Medicine?
I chose UAB Medicine to continue my training at an academic medical center. The UAB Medicine Infectious Diseases PGY2 program offers a variety of learning experiences in my areas of interest, as well as opportunities in the inpatient and outpatient settings. I was looking for a collaborative learning place to train. Additionally, I found the antimicrobial stewardship pharmacists enthusiastic about making a positive impact on patient care.
