Congratulations to the most recent winner: Kristy Benefield, RN! What makes Kristy a DAISY winner?

“I nominate Kristy Benefield for the DAISY Award. I lost my baby during delivery and was a complete wreck afterwards. I didn’t even know how to take care of myself or how to process everything. Kristy was there every step of the way, consoling me, comforting me, helping me understand my grief, and helping me through the entire process. If it wasn’t for her, I don’t know how I would’ve made it.

She gave me the resources I needed to make tough decisions that nobody should have to do, which is lay your child to rest. I had no money and she helped me with a grant to get a proper burial for my son. She is an angel. We cried and prayed together. She came and checked on me every day. She connected me to all the right people to make sure that I was taken care of when I couldn’t take care of myself. She went above and beyond her job duty. I am from Texas, so I had no family or friends here––no one at all, and Kristy was there for me.

I cannot express enough how much I appreciate her and thank her for her love and help. She’s not just an employee who works at UAB, but she’s my family now too and a wonderful asset to UAB Medicine. You guys are so lucky to have her as a part of your team because it’s people like her that make a difference.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Kristy, from the bottom of my heart. Even though she is humble and doesn’t do these things for the recognition, she deserves to be acknowledged for her amazing skills and work she does at UAB.”
