Congratulations to this month’s winners: Casey Crooks, RN & Kelly Minor, RN! What makes Casey and Kelly DAISY winners?

“I have a patient who I have taken care of for quite a while that is actually a physician at another hospital in Birmingham. She came in for induction today and was close to delivery around 6 PM when her husband needed to go to daycare to pick up their son because their babysitter cancelled. Casey Crooks, RN, overhead the patient talking to her husband on the phone while he was in the parking lot with their son in front of the Women & Infants Center. Casey arranged to have another one of our L&D nurses, Kelly Minor, RN, go down to the car to hang out with the young son so her husband could come up to the delivery. Because of her profession, the patient never even asked [if her husband could be in the room] and would not break the visitation rules, even for childbirth. He made it to the room 5 minutes before delivery and was just overwhelmed with excitement. When they thanked Casey, Casey replied and said, This is what we do!’

My patient was incredibly touched, as was her husband. I‘m just really proud of our nurses and am also touched to have witnessed it.”
