UAB Dermatology is one of the top programs in the nation for managing complex skin disorders. In fact, it is one of only six Skin Diseases Research Centers in the United States, as designated and funded by the National Institutes of Health.
UAB Dermatology provides the most advanced services and facilities for the care of skin cancer. As part of the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, we manage thousands of skin cancer cases each year, treating melanoma, high-risk basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and other rare skin tumors. Our dermatopathologists offer specialized care in both dermatology and pathology, diagnosing and treating a wide variety of diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. We offer Mohs micrographic surgery, a procedure that minimizes unsightly skin treatment damage by targeting only the abnormal tissue of a skin lesion.
Urgent Access Clinic
UAB Dermatology operates an urgent access clinic to make it easier for patients to receive care for skin-related medical complaints and be scheduled for potential follow-up care. It offers same-week appointments, and no prior patient relationship with UAB Medicine is required. Conditions treated include new skin lesions, new rashes, lumps, bumps, and moles that recently changed in appearance. Clinic visits are focused on a primary complaint, and if ongoing care is needed, the clinic can refer patients to the appropriate UAB Medicine specialists.
